During the matriculation ceremony, which took place on October 7, the main lecture hall at the Didactic Center was full. Not surprisingly, as the faculty welcomed a total of 1702 new students for the 2025/2026 academic year.
- Dear students, today marks the beginning of a beautiful chapter in your history. It is wonderful to see so many of you gathered here at the threshold of this new chapter of your life, which I am sure will change not only your lives, but also the lives of those you will support with your care, knowledge, and courage - Professor Mariusz Gujski, Dean of the faculty, told the students.
Doing Good Together
During the inauguration of the 2025/2026 academic year, Professor Magdalena Kucia quoted Plato’s words: “The greatest mistake in education is to allow future leaders to care about something else than truth and the common good.” The Dean, Professor Mariusz Gujski, also referred back to those words and emphasized that the university not only educated and conducted research, but it also worked for the benefit of society. That is why all members of the academic community should be role models and work on nurturing their qualities such as critical thinking skills, as well as their readiness and courage to defend the facts.
- In a world that has been sliding deeper and deeper into superficiality and simplifications, where people’s emotions are used for particularist aims, our job is not just to seek knowledge, but also to become sources of truth, wisdom, and the culture of dialog - said the Dean.
Working for the benefit of society rests on the care for another human, open-mindedness, and the ability to listen to others.
- Today, when loneliness, depression, and digital isolation are taking their toll, your role as future graduates of the Faculty of Health Sciences will be not just to treat people, but also to build a healthy society - Professor Gujski emphasized.
He ended by adding:
- Your presence here is more than just a choice of a degree course. It is a challenge to become better – for yourself and for others. I am sure that each and every one of you is strong. This is clear from the decision you took to be here, from the choice of this particular learning path. It is a great responsibility, but also a chance for us all to do a lot of good. Let’s be courageous together and change the world with wisdom, dignity, and a heart that is always open for the other human being.
A Good Choice
The guests invited to the event also offered welcoming words to the newly admitted students.
- You have made an excellent choice, because all of these degree courses are the professions of the future. Congratulations!” said the Polish Senator and Head of the Senate Committee for Health, Beata Małecka-Libera, PhD. And she added: - Always take the side of values, of the truth, and seek your own path. My best wishes to all of you.
The President of the National Health Fund, Filip Nowak, PhD, emphasized that all the degree courses taught at the faculty are the foundation of the healthcare system and have an impact on the wellbeing of the country’s residents. And that is why they are the future.
He ended his speech by saying: - Ladies and gentlemen, keep learning, because it’s worth being a wise and educated person, and we are waiting for you!
