The Department of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine UCC MUW helps 4,000 patients annually.
“How is our department different from others? We do absolutely everything that modern gastroenterology has to offer, i.e., we perform the full spectrum of all endoscopic procedures available today, including the most difficult and technologically advanced ones,” emphasized Professor Przybyłkowski.
The clinic specializes in pancreatobiliary endoscopic procedures, i.e., those aimed at the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the bile ducts and pancreas. Last year, over 2,500 such procedures were performed in the department. In addition, patients with non-specfic inflammatory bowel diseases are treated in the department, but the department also qualifies patients for liver transplantation. Moreover, the team of the department specializes in the treatment of Wilson's disease, a rare genetic condition that involves abnormal copper metabolism. Approximately 300 people with this disease are under the care of the Department.
Now, thanks to the modernization and supplying the department with new equipment, including endoscopes or endoscopic washer equipment, the quality of patient treatment and patient safety will be even higher!
Congratulations on the opening
“It warms my heart to see how the decor, but especially the capabilities of our hospital are changing,” said Prof. Rafał Krenke, the Rector of MUW. “The modernization of the department means, firstly, the improvement of working conditions, secondly, increasingly better quality of medical services, and thirdly, the improvement of training conditions of students, because it is extremely important that they learn modern procedures using the infrastructure of the 21st century.”
“A big thank you and congratulations to all of you, because I know very well how much effort you have to put into opening something new,” said Marzena Kowalczyk, the Director of UCC MUW, to the personnel of the department.
The Director also expressed her appreciation for the fact that, even though the department operated in as many as four locations during the modernization, the number of services provided did not decrease.
Then, the Rector of the MUW, the Director of the UCC MUW and the Head of the Department cut the ribbon, and Professor Przybyłkowski invited the guests to visit the modernized rooms.
The total value of the project was PLN 23,743,000: the targeted subsidy granted by the Ministry of Health was PLN 23,367,860, the remaining amount was covered from the hospital's own resources.
