Openness to joint initiatives
It is worth emphasizing that WUM and Semmelweis University are partner institutions within the Erasmus+ program. However, both universities aim to expand their cooperation to include scientific and clinical activities, for example, in the fields of regenerative medicine and transplantation. For both institutions, joint initiatives within the EUniWell alliance and applying for funding to support these activities are also important priorities. These plans were discussed during the two-day visit, during which our guests also toured the Medical Simulation Center, the University Dental Center, and the Teaching Pediatric Hospital at UCK WUM.
“We are deeply impressed by the Medical University of Warsaw,” emphasized Dr. Alán Alpár, Vice Rector of Semmelweis University. “The university has modern infrastructure equipped with excellent facilities. It effectively makes use of available European Union and national funding, creating solutions that benefit both students and patients. It is undertaking initiatives that make the WUM campus vibrant and full of life. It was very valuable to see all of this firsthand.”
“We will continue to develop student and staff exchanges within the Erasmus+ program,” noted Dr. Tamás Hegedüs. “During the visit, we also discussed interesting research topics that may result in joint publications and grant applications.”
“From the perspective of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, the discussions on opportunities for joint research into biologically active dental materials that could support biological pulp treatment and the regeneration of hard dental tissues were particularly important,” said Prof. Agnieszka Mielczarek.
“The vision of Semmelweis University stands out in the areas of student and doctoral education, scientific research, and clinical activity. I hope we will continue to develop cooperation in all three of these areas,” said Prof. Magdalena Kucia.
Partnership based on shared values
High-quality education rooted in academic tradition, a leading position in research, development, and innovation in Europe and worldwide, and professional patient care are goals and values shared by the Medical University of Warsaw and Semmelweis University. But these are not the only common bonds.
“We are open to bilateral cooperation between our universities because they are connected by historical and cultural ties,” emphasized Levente Béla Vágó.
