Charity Futsal Tournament at WUM

It was the largest indoor football tournament in the history of our university. It was inspired by the FIFA World Cup, which is set to take place in the summer of 2026. So we could see 24 "representations of individual countries of the world" in action. Egypt won. All the income from the event was donated to help cover the treatment expenses of Asia, the sister of one of the players – a mother, wife, daughter and friend who is fighting cancer.

The games took place on February 21 at the MUW Sports and Rehabilitation Center. They were open to students, graduates and employees of the MUW as well as people from outside the university – a maximum of two in a representation. Individual teams consisted of five players (four plus the goalkeeper) and possibly two substitutes.

Best in Tournament

Egyptians (English Division team) won the Tournament: Shadi Al-Nashar, Mohammed Al-Azzawi, Mohammed Altheraawi, Messien Al-Shalaby, Salah Mahmoud, Mutaz Muqbel, Artur Schwab. They played better from match to match. In the final they defeated the Uruguayan team 3-1. The bronze medals were awarded to French players after an exciting match against Colombia. Prizes were also awarded in the following categories:

  • The best player of the tournament: Salah Mahmoud (Egypt)
  • Top goalscorer: Messien Al-Shalaby (Egypt), Tomasz Konecki (France), Szymon Lelas (Colombia)
  • Player with top assists: Marcin Saganek (France)
  • The best goalkeeper of the tournament: Łukasz Nogajski (Ivory Coast)
  • Top fans: New Zealand, Poland

Charity goal reached

The entire tournament was of a charitable nature, both the entry fees of all players and other donations were used to treat Asia's cancer. The organizers managed to collect over PLN 6,000. 
The event attracted exceptional guests. Various stages of the tournament were watched by such guests as: Prof. Rafał Krenke, the Rector of MUW, Prof. Marek Kuch, the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska, the Vice Rector for Clinical Affairs and Investment; Prof. Paweł Włodarski, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Assoc. Prof. Jacek Sieńko, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs of the English Division, Assoc. Prof. Justyna Teliga-Czajkowska, the Vice Dean for Obstetrics at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The games were organized by the Academic Sports Association MUW in cooperation with the MUW Student Government.
