The technology used makes it possible to close a PFO without leaving a permanent metal implant in the heart. This solution may be particularly beneficial for patients with nickel allergies and for those who may require transseptal transcatheter procedures on the mitral valve or left atrial appendage in the future.
This innovative procedure is an important achievement by the team of the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology at UCC WUM, headed by Professor Marcin Grabowski. Besides, it is also further proof that our university is successfully set the direction for the development of modern medicine, while the solutions introduced by WUM specialists offer the opportunity to treat patients using the latest methods.
The procedure was performed by a team consisting of Prof. Zenon Huczek, Associate Professor Piotr Scisło, and Dr Bartosz Rymuza from the Invasive Cardiology Laboratory, headed by Prof. Janusz Kochman.
