The Chair and Department of Psychiatry WUM operates at the hospital on Nowowiejska Street, and its patients are also referred to the Department of Psychiatric Care and Treatment. In addition to its medical activities, the department conducts classes for the Medical University of Warsaw students, postgraduate training for doctors and future scientists, and specialist training. It also conducts scientific research in the field of psychiatry and addiction.
For 10 years, ZOLP Rasztów has been organizing picnics to welcome and end the summer. These annual gatherings in a beautiful garden are intended to bring together patients, staff, and invited guests. They also demonstrate how important it is for people with psychiatric problems to have access to places like this, where treatment takes place in very friendly conditions, providing space for various forms of therapy.
The therapy through art
As usual, the picnic was accompanied by an artistic performance, which is always created on the initiative of the patients. Their ideas are translated into a script with the support of the female psychologists working here.
After the performance, visitors could admire—and even receive as a gift—one of the artworks created by patients under the guidance of Ewa Dmochowska, who works at the ZOLP Rasztów providing therapy through art. The most impressive were the paintings depicting Angels from Rasztów – they are supposed to protect the ZOLP and the recipients. Each of them, according to the accompanying poem-message (...), was simply created, but feels a little lost. So it decided to wait until it finds its Special Someone (...).
Special guests
The participants were welcomed by Cezary Kostrzewa, Director of the Nowowiejski Hospital. After the artistic performance, tables with cakes, drinks, grilled vegetables, and sausages awaited everyone in the garden. Numerous guests spent the sunny autumn morning with the patients in this friendly picnic atmosphere, including Anna Brzezińska, Marshal of the Mazovia Province, Prof. Agnieszka Cudnoch-Jędrzejewska, Vice Rector for Clinical Affairs and Investments WUM, representative of the Social Council of the Nowowiejski Hospital, Prof. Marcin Wojnar, Head of the Chair and Department of Psychiatry WUM at the Nowowiejski Hospital, Małgorzata Zaława-Dąbrowska, member of our University Council, Director of the SPZZLO Warszawa-Żoliborz, Prof. Maria Radziwoń-Zaleska, consultant in the field of psychiatry, Chair and Department of Psychiatry WUM, Prof. Andrzej Kokoszka, Head of the 2nd Clinic of Psychiatry WUM at the Bródnowski Hospital, Lilia Kimber-Dziwisz, consultant in the field of long-term care nursing, Jarosław Chmielewski from the Office of the Patient Ombudsman.
