The activities will be carried out thanks to the funding received by the “Accessible MUW - New Opportunities” project under the European Social Fund Plus. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Association for Equal Access to Education “Your New Opportunities.” The first work to make MUW more accessible has already begun.
What are the goals of the project “Accessible MUW - New Opportunities”
An analysis of barriers at our university has identified eight areas where changes need to be made. These are: organizational structure, architectural accessibility, information and communication accessibility, digital accessibility, technology, procedures, education support services, and disability awareness activities.
The corrective measures are expected to result in, among other things: the development of an organizational structure and the establishment of an Accessibility Unit; the implementation of technologies and support services at MUW; the upgrading of the skills of MUW staff so that they can work effectively with people with disabilities, and the preparation of a plan to develop these skills.
First steps to improve accessibility at MUW
An Accessibility Council has already been established to, among other things, consult on the accessibility activities of MUW units and provide substantive support in eight areas that need improvement.
The representatives of MUW also took part in the “Aware Personnel” workshop for university staff involved in supporting people with disabilities and special needs in the higher education process. Among other things, the training included lectures on the use of plain language in communication or the preparation of “accessible” teaching materials and university documentation.
The workshop was attended by Magdalena Woynarowska, MD, PhD, Rector's Plenipotentiary for Persons with Disabilities, Anna Serzysko-Dąbrowska, Project Manager of the “Accessible WUM - New Opportunities” project, Diana Rychlica from the Education Project Department, Magdalena Potentas, Head of the Human Resources Office, Elżbieta Kostecka from the Office for Teaching and Student Affairs, as well as Marta Opalach, Investor Supervisor.
The “Accessible MUW - New Opportunities” project is co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund Plus of the European Funds for Social Development Program 2021-2027 under Priority 3 Accessibility and services for people with disabilities, Measure 03.01 Accessibility of higher education.
