- This event marks the official beginning of your university journey and symbolizes your admission to our academic community - said the Dean.
She praised the newly admitted students for their hard work, determination, and readiness to face future challenges, which earned them a place at one of the leading medical universities in Poland. The Dean emphasized that these qualities are essential throughout the years of study and in future professional practice, as medical knowledge and skills require continuous development and lifelong learning.
Well-prepared staff and modern educational facilities
These are the foundations of effective education in medical fields. Both the Faculty and the University boast highly qualified academic staff and the necessary infrastructure. Our students gain knowledge and experience at the University Dental Center and the Medical Simulation Center, learning in simulation rooms equipped with advanced phantoms and trainers, diagnostic laboratories, and modern basic science teaching facilities. This enables them to acquire the knowledge and competencies required in today’s healthcare system.
- Our clinical facilities allow you to gain experience in real patient care settings using modern equipment and diagnostic technologies. Integrated IT systems, access to medical databases, and e-learning platforms support the educational process, allowing you to combine theoretical knowledge with practical clinical skills - emphasized Prof. Mielczarek.
Theory and practice are not enough
To perform medical professions with dignity, something more is needed.
- You must also be guided by integrity, responsibility, and respect for patients, colleagues, and teachers. Your instructors, in addition to sharing knowledge, play a key role in shaping your values, ethical standards, and professional principles - the Dean noted.
She concluded by wishing the newly admitted students to use their university years not only for study but also for self-discovery, personal development, and building relationships.
- I am certain that you will meet the challenges ahead and that each of you will find your place in our academic community. My heartfelt congratulations - said Prof. Mielczarek.
The student oath
Before taking the student oath, those who achieved the highest admission scores for their programs were recognized. The awards were presented by Dean Prof. Agnieszka Mielczarek and Vice Rector for Human Resources and Organization Prof. Dorota Olczak-Kowalczyk.
Next, the students recited the oath together, pledging, among other things, to strive persistently for knowledge and personal development and to uphold the dignity and honor of a WUM student. The oath was administered by Prof. Izabela Domitrz, Vice-Dean for Physiotherapy, and Dr. hab. Piotr Regulski, Vice Dean for International Cooperation and for the English-taught dentistry and radiology programs.
Welcome among us and remember that you are not alone
- It is with great honor and emotion that I welcome you to the Medical University of Warsaw. Dear students, from this moment on, you are part of a great academic family,” said Klaudia Dwornikiewicz, representative of the WLS Student Council. She added that newly admitted students become representatives of the University not only in the academic community but also in social and professional environments, which should be a source of both pride and motivation.
- As a representative of the English Dentistry Division, I am proud to welcome you to our diverse and vibrant academic community, united by a common goal – learning, growth, and service to others - said Divit Amarnani.
Both Klaudia and Divit reminded everyone of the important role of student councils at the University. Not only do they address student-related issues, but they also provide support and foster a sense of community.
- We want you to know that you are not alone. We are here to support you in everyday matters, protect your rights and needs, and build a community based on dialogue, mutual respect, and cooperation - emphasized Klaudia Dwornikiewicz.
- The coming years will be full of challenges, discoveries, and meaningful experiences. Remember that you are never alone on this journey. You can always turn to senior students and the English Dentistry Division Student Council for support and guidance. Together, we are here to help you make the most of your time at the Medical University of Warsaw – both academically and socially - added Divit Amarnani.
Matriculation lecture: “Introduction to artificial intelligence in medicine”
The lecture was delivered by Dr. hab. Piotr Regulski, Vice Dean for International Cooperation and for the English-taught dentistry and radiology programs.
- One of the main tasks of artificial intelligence is pattern analysis based on numerical data. This means that AI can identify certain regularities and patterns in images, texts, or biological signals. A pattern can be understood as a recurring structure or characteristic feature within a given data set. When a computer can recognize such a pattern, it can later use it to draw conclusions - explained the speaker.
He emphasized that AI has numerous practical applications in medicine. It is used, for example, to optimize treatment procedures, simulate various processes such as epidemics, and analyze data from medical devices that monitor patients in real time. He also described the use of AI algorithms in the process of regenerating a damaged Achilles tendon, which made it possible to precisely determine the moment when the tendon regained sufficient strength for gradual weight-bearing.
- By applying machine learning algorithms, including advanced MRI image segmentation and reconstruction methods, it was possible to perform a more precise analysis of joint structures. This enabled earlier detection of inflammatory or degenerative changes. Such an approach allows for more personalized rehabilitation - highlighted Dr. hab. Piotr Regulski.
The matriculation ceremony was attended by many guests. In addition to those mentioned above, the event brought together the Faculty’s Vice Deans, Prof. Jolanta Kostrzewa-Janicka and Dr. hab. Joanna Peradzyńska, academic teachers representing WLS units, staff of the Dean’s Office, members of the Faculty Council, teaching and program councils, and students who form the WLS Student Council.
