The event was jointly organized by the Warsaw Branch of the Polish Society of Laboratory Diagnosticians, the National Chamber of Laboratory Diagnosticians, and the Faculty of Pharmacy together with the Student Society of Laboratory Diagnosticians at the Medical University of Warsaw (WUM).
This year, the conference was also held in conjunction with the anniversary celebrations of the Faculty.
“One hundred years of tradition in pharmacy education and twenty-five years of teaching medical analytics oblige us to provide education of the highest quality,” emphasized Prof. Piotr Luliński, Dean of the Faculty. “I can say with full conviction that we cultivate in our graduates—laboratory diagnosticians—the qualities that enable them to practice their profession reliably and in line with the best available knowledge.”
A profession that, as the dean added, had long gone largely unnoticed and only recently gained the recognition it deserves as a pillar of the healthcare system.
Conference Program
Dr. Agnieszka Ochocińska from the Department of Clinical Biochemistry at the Children’s Memorial Health Institute spoke about the benefits of placements and study visits at international institutions. She pointed out that such experiences not only help participants acquire additional skills but also facilitate knowledge transfer and the implementation of new diagnostic techniques in their home institutions.
The next speaker was Dr. Paweł Kozłowski from the Department of Laboratory Medicine at WUM and the Central Clinical Hospital Laboratory (CSK UCK WUM), who discussed new standards in the laboratory diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.
“In multiple sclerosis, laboratory diagnostics plays a supporting role—we provide one or two pieces of the overall puzzle. Sometimes they are essential for establishing a diagnosis, and sometimes they serve only as additional information,” the speaker noted at the beginning.
The final presentation was delivered by Prof. Olga Ciepiela, Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at WUM and the Central Clinical Hospital Laboratory (CSK UCK WUM). She explained how her laboratory monitors pre-analytical errors and complies with accreditation standards.
“Laboratories are always best prepared for accreditation because we cannot imagine doing anything without a procedure. Patients’ lives and health depend on these procedures, so we cannot afford any degree of arbitrariness,” said Prof. Ciepiela.
During the conference, distinguished laboratory diagnosticians were honored with statuettes and diplomas. They handed out by Dr. Monika Pintal-Ślimak, President of the National Chamber of Laboratory Diagnosticians; Dr. Aldona Wierzbicka-Rucińska, representative of the Mazovian Voivodeship on the National Council of Laboratory Diagnosticians; and Dr. Monika Jabłonowska, PharmD, Voivodship Consultant for Laboratory Diagnostics.
The event was held under the honorary patronage of Prof. Rafał Krenke, Rector of the Medical University of Warsaw, and Mariusz Frankowski, Governor of the Mazovian Voivodeship.
