WUM expands cooperation with Uzbekistan: memorandum signed during an international congress in Samarkand

The Medical University of Warsaw took part in the Central Asia–European Union Universities Congress 2026 and the 3rd Poland–Uzbekistan Rectors’ Forum, held on April 13–14, 2026, in Samarkand. This high-level event was attended by ministers in charge of science and higher education, university rectors, and representatives of the academic community from Central Asia and Europe. The Polish Minister of Science and Higher Education, Marcin Kulasek, was also present.

WUM was represented by Prof. Michał Grąt, Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Promotion, and Development, and Dr. Jacek Sieńko, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs of the Faculty of Medicine (English Division). During the meetings in Samarkand, Prof. Michał Grąt signed, on behalf of the university, a memorandum of understanding establishing cooperation with the Bukhara State Medical Institute named after Abu Ali ibn Sino.

The agreement paves the way for cooperation in student and staff exchange, joint research projects, the development of educational programs, the organization of conferences and workshops, and clinical research.
WUM’s participation in the congress brought tangible results. Medical universities in Uzbekistan showed strong interest in cooperation with the Medical University of Warsaw. The first internships for doctors and students from Uzbekistan at WUM are expected to begin later this year.

WUM’s presence in Samarkand is another important step in advancing its internationalization strategy and strengthening the university’s position in the international academic community.
