The lucky seven! Our university among the leaders of the Perspektywy 2023 ranking of higher education institutions

In the ranking of Polish academic universities published on June 29, MUW took seventh place. This is a huge promotion and a historic record for our university in the ranking conducted by the Educational Foundation "Perspektywy" since 2000. And this is not the end of the good news! Seven MUW fields of study were ranked among the top three in the country. In addition, Medical University of Warsaw - for another year in a row - is the second academic university with the highest index reflecting the position of graduates on the labor market.

The Perspektywy 2023 Ranking of Higher Education Institutions consists of four rankings: academic universities, non-public universities, public academies of applied sciences and public vocational universities, and fields of study. The ranking takes into account 30 indicators grouped into seven criteria: prestige, graduates on the labor market, scientific potential, innovation, scientific efficiency, educational conditions and internationalization. On June 29, at a gala ceremony held at the National Institute of Culture, the Rector of our university, Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong, received from the hands of the ranking creators a diploma confirming MUW's placement in the ranking. Also present at the gala was Prof. Robert Gałązkowski, Vice Dean for Dietetics, Emergency Medicine and Public Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences MUW, who received a diploma confirming the first place of the emergency medicine.

Historic promotion

The ranking of Polish academic universities included 102 higher education institutions, public and non-public (excluding art schools), which are authorized to confer doctoral degrees. The Medical University of Warsaw, ranked seventh, is the highest ranked medical university classified in the top ten of the list. Behind it, in the ninth place, is the Medical University of Gdańsk (ex aequo with the Lodz University of Technology). In first place this year - ex aequo were: Jagiellonian University in Kraków and University of Warsaw.

This year's place in the ranking is a great success. It's not only a promotion of five positions compared to the 2022 ranking (then MUW was ranked 12th), but also the highest placement to date. - We are extremely pleased with the results of the ranking - says Rector Prof. Zbigniew Gaciong. - We are the oldest university in Warsaw, with a tradition dating back more than 200 years. And also one of the largest in the country. The position in the ranking confirms our position on the academic and educational map of the country.

Leaders in education

Nine fields of study from our educational offerings made it to the podium of their lists in the Ranking of the Fields of Study 2023. These are:

  • emergency medicine – 1st place (out of 20 universities)
  • medical analytics - 2nd place(out of 11 universities)
  • dietetics – 2nd place (out of 19 universities)
  • medicine – 2nd place (out of 15 universities)
  • public health – 2nd place (out of 12 universities)
  • pharmacy – 2nd place (out of 11 universities)
  • midwifery – 2nd place (out of 15 universities)
  • nursing – 3rd place(out of 25 universities)

The Ranking of the Fields of Study 2023 takes into account 74 fields of study. This is only a fraction of the educational offer of Polish universities, which includes more than 1,700 fields of study. Taking this into account, the Educational Foundation "Perspektywy", together with universities, has assigned these studies to the most popular fields of study or groups of fields of study subject to ranking.

MUW diploma is a guarantee of good employment

Noteworthy, in the 24th edition of the ranking, MUW is the second academic university with the highest index reflecting the position of graduates on the labor market. This is the second time in a row! Once again, we are also the only university with a medical profile in the top "ten" of the list prepared on the basis of the criterion "Graduates on the labor market", thus surpassing 48 universities. The first place - again - went to the Warsaw School of Economics.

"Graduates on the labor market" is one of the seven criteria of the Ranking of Academic Universities. It is established on the basis of a nationwide survey of the economic fate of graduates, conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science using data from the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS). The results of the survey taken into account are from 2017-2020. The index takes into account two parameters: the earnings of graduates in relation to earnings in the district of residence and the employability of graduates - measured by the risk of unemployment against the unemployment rate in the district of residence. It also introduces a corrective indicator for the percentage of graduates covered by the ELA system (i.e. registered with Social Insurance Institution). The data takes into account the situation in the first year after graduation. Second place for our university is a confirmation of the quality of education provided at MUW and the importance of the diploma obtained on the labor market.
