These are the first guidelines in the history of the Polish Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy developed in accordance with the GRADE methodology.
What is the GRADE methodology?
GRADE is a transparent and structured approach to summarizing scientific evidence and developing clinical practice guidelines. It is used by many internationally recognized organizations, including WHO, ESC, and the Cochrane Collaboration.
What the document covers
The document titled “Central venous cannulation in critically ill patients” was developed by a 15-member PTAiIT Expert Panel and includes 11 recommendations on the safe performance of central venous access in critically ill patients.
Who prepared the document
The working group responsible for developing the guidelines was chaired by Dr. hab. Mateusz Zawadka from the Second Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at UCK WUM. Dr. Julia Trzebicka from the same unit also participated in the panel’s work.
Basis of the recommendations
The guidelines were developed based on systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses, and expert consensus. The document aims to improve procedural safety, enhance effectiveness, and further standardize clinical practice in anesthesiology and intensive care.
The document was published on April 11, 2026, and presented at the Intensive Care Forum in Kraków.
