We received more than PLN 106 million in subsidies

The money comes from the Medical Fund and was received by the University Clinical Center. The funds are intended to "improve the quality and availability of services for children." In practice, this means that our children's clinics will be able to buy state-of-the-art medical equipment - such as CT scanners, X-ray machines, ultrasound scanners, cardiac monitors, and non-medical equipment - such as chairs, couches and computers.

Last December, the University Clinical Center entered a competition for funds from the Medical Fund. The results were just announced, and it turned out that we were one of the beneficiaries. We received a check for the amount of PLN 106,091,482.
It is worth recalling that the Medical Fund is a new initiative of the President of the Republic of Poland, established in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. The main objectives of this project are:
•    Reduced waiting time for diagnosis and faster start of treatment for the youngest patients
•    implementation of modern forms of therapy in pediatrics
•    improving comfort during the stay of the child and his caregiver in the hospital.
More than 3 billion zlotys were allocated to the Medical Fund this year. So there was a lot to fight for. Twenty-three medical entities entered the competition. The grant was awarded to 14 of them. The University Clinical Center received 502 points for its project entitled: Strengthening infrastructure for the delivery of pediatric services in response to demographic and epidemiological needs. Implementation is scheduled for 2022-2024 and will be fully financed by the Medical Fund.
- Funding from the Ministry will bring state-of-the-art medical equipment to children's clinics UCC. For example, the Department of Pediatric Radiology will gain a multi-slice CT scanner, and the Department of Pediatric Oncology, Hematology and Transplantation will get an exoskeleton (an externally attached skeleton designed to enhance muscle strength). A bedside cardiac monitor with a dual-saturation monitoring module will be purchased for the Neonatology Department. The Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery will receive a state-of-the-art echocardiograph, and the Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology will receive video gastroscopes, reports Izabela Wojcik-Kukla, head of the Director's Office UCC MUW. And she adds that, of course, these are just examples, mini-examples, of a very long list of specialized equipment that will be purchased for 20 of our units. In the overall list of medical equipment, we have several hundred items, among them X-ray machines, ultrasound machines, laboratory centrifuges, hospital beds, infusion pumps, inhalers... Whereas in the list of non-medical equipment, we have 77 items such as drip stands, tables, room disinfection equipment, scales, treatment carts, etc. With such a large retrofit, it will be possible to diagnose and treat children more effectively at UCC MUW. The conditions for young patients in the wards will also improve.
