The ceremony was led by Prof. Piotr Luliński, who emphasized the importance of remembering the founders and staff of the faculty.
“May this plaque, commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy, be a symbol of our remembrance of its founders. Among them, we should first and foremost mention the first deans: Prof. Władysław Mazurkiewicz and Prof. Bronisław Koskowski,” said the current Dean. “May this plaque also symbolize our remembrance of the academic staff who, over the years, educated students and helped shape the position of the professions of pharmacists and laboratory diagnosticians in society. Let it also be a symbol of remembrance of the scientists who contributed to the development of pharmaceutical sciences.”
After the plaque was unveiled by Rector Rafał Krenke and Dean Piotr Luliński, the participants moved outside the faculty building. On the Żwirki and Wigury Street side of the building, a linden tree had previously been planted. A plaque placed beside it commemorates the anniversary of the Faculty of Pharmacy. As Prof. Piotr Luliński explained, the linden tree is an element of the Faculty of Pharmacy’s logo and also a symbol of femininity, family, and caregiving. It complements the oak (a symbol of masculinity), which appears in the logo of the Faculty of Medicine.
The short but meaningful ceremony attracted many distinguished guests. Among them were Prof. Rafał Krenke, Rector of WUM; Prof. Marcin Sobczak, Vice Rector for Research and Technology Transfer; Prof. Paweł Włodarski, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. hab. Patryk Rzońca, Vice Dean in charge of the Faculty of Health Sciences; Prof. Sebastian Granica, Chair of the Discipline Council for Pharmaceutical Sciences; and former Deans of the Faculty of Pharmacy: Prof. Bożenna Gutkowska, Prof. Jan Pachecka, Prof. Piotr Wroczyński, and Prof. Joanna Kolmas.
The anniversary celebrations were accompanied by an exhibition of artworks created by the winners of a competition for high school students titled “The Faculty of Pharmacy Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow – 100 Years of Science, Education, and Passion.”
