PhD students Monika Cymer and Dr Mateusz Adamiak from the Department of Regenerative Medicine of our University received Abstract Achievement Award at the 61st Congress of the American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting & Exposition, which took place from 7-10 December in Orlando.

December 2, 2019, marks the start of the construction of Medical University of Warsaw’s new Medical Simulation Center on the Banach campus on Pawińskiego St. It is planned to be completed by mid-2022.

At the invitation of Prof. Marek Postuła - Dean of the English Division Medical Program at Medical University of Warsaw on Friday, November 29, the acclaimed American artist, Endi Poskovic, gave a talk to students and staff who are participating in the Open Fulbright Lecture Series at WUM.

Medical University of Warsaw is a partner of the Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership CLILMed Project that has a goal to develop educational tools that will equip teachers in the medical field to meet these new challenges. The Project’s Kick-Off event took place 26-28 November in Krakow. Project experts and coordinators from participating partner universities met for the first time to set CLILMed in motion.

MUW’s scientist - Piotr Kaszczewski, MD PHD, from the Department of General, Endocrine and Vascular Surgery MUW’s University Clinical Center, headed by Professor Zbigniew Gałązka, gave a presentation entitled "Carotid Flow Volume Measurement With Doppler Ultrasonography As A New Approach To The Diagnosis Of Internal Carotid Artery Stenoses" at the prestigious VEITH Symposium on Vascular and Endovascular Issues, Techniques, Horizons, which took place on 19-23 November 2019 in New York.

The first edition of TEDx conference organized at Medical University of Warsaw took place on 17th of November. It was the first TEDx conference placed at Polish medical university. 9 unique speakers representing the areas of medicine, technology, science and sport gave their inspirational speeches and shared their experience and knowledge. The event, held under the auspices of the MUW’s Rector – prof. Mirosław Wielgoś, gathered 200 participants. Sharing gripping ideas and creating a friendly space for discovering creative thoughts was possible thanks to the commitment of 50 volunteers – students of the Medical University of Warsaw.

On November 6th, at the Department of General, Vascular and Transplant Surgery, chaired by prof. Sławomir Nazarewski, an autotransplantation of a transplanted kidney with an extracorporeal vascular reconstruction was perfromed. The procedure was unique on a global scale, and possible due to unusual combination of mastery both in transplant and vascular surgery techniques.

On Thursday, November 14, on the eve of the 210th anniversary of teaching medicine in Warsaw, the university, faculty and administrative authorities laid flowers under a stone Obelisk, commemorating the beginnings of existence of our university.

The team from the 1st Chair and Department of Cardiology, chaired by prof. Grzegorz Opolski, joined a small group of european medical centres performing ablation with the support of ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).
