Visit of the renowned cardiologist, Prof. Fausto Pinto

On May 15, 2018, Prof. Fausto Pinto, a leading cardiologist in Europe, visited the Medical University of Warsaw on the occasion of a Scientific Conference organized by the 1st Faculty of Medicine.

Prof. Fausto Pinto is the former President and Founder of the European Association of Echocardiography. In this capacity, Prof. Pinto cooperated with many Polish cardiologists in the field of echocardiography such as Prof. Piotr Pruszczyk. He held the position of President of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) from 2014-2016; he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Portuguese Journal of Cardiology (1999-2015); and, initiated the ESC Editors' Club which worked closely with prof. Krzysztof J. Filipiak, the former Editor-in-Chief of the Polish Journal of Cardiology.

Prof. Pinto was received by University authorities including Prof. Jadwiga Turło, Deputy Rector for Science and Technology Transfer; Prof. Krzysztof J. Filipiak, Deputy Rector for Internationalization, Promotion and Development; as well as by a delegation of the University’s five highest ranking cardiologists in 2015-2017 (based on the number of publications and achievements in scientific research): Prof. Grzegorz Opolski, Prof. Krzysztof J. Filipiak, Prof. Piotr Pruszczyk, Filip M. Szymański, Ph.D. and Janusz Kochman, Ph.D. 

The morning discussions covered topics like recent developments in cardiology in Europe and cooperation activities between the Medical University of Warsaw and the Lisbon Cardiovascular Institute which Prof. Pinto heads. Following a short video presentation of the Medical University of Warsaw, Dr. Anna Płatek and some Ph.D. students from the Cardiology Department and Clinic talked about their ERASMUS research experience at the Lisbon Cardiovascular Institute. Prof. Pinto concluded the meeting by stressing the importance of continuing the teaching and scientific cooperation between the Medical University of Warsaw and the University of Lisbon Faculty of Medicine where he is Dean through exchanges (internships and trainings) of students, academic teachers and scientists, as well as, through the exchange of scientific ideas, publications, information, and by organizing joint workshops.

The meeting was organized by Mr. Michał Cegiełkowski, Coordinator of the Internationalization, Promotion and Development Division and by Mrs. Lidia Przepióra-Dziewulska, Head of the International Cooperation Department who presented Prof. Pinto with a copy of “The Golden Book of the Medical University of Warsaw.”
